L'opportunità di gestire il primo casinò resort nel sud di Cipro ha attirato l'interesse di 13 operatori.

Speaking after a presentation of the casino proposal during a meeting of the ministries of Finance and Commerce and the casino coordinating committee, Philippos Katranis said the bill would be voted on in Mid-January. If the bill is approved there would then be a period of three weeks before a two month long tender process would be launched.

Undersecretary to the President of the Republic, Constantinos Petrides, described the process as not so much being about legalising casinos but more an upgrading of the country’s tourism offering.

“Our aim is not to legalise gambling but to upgrade our tourism product,” he said, adding that the most likely delay for the bill’s approval would come from last minute changes being made to it.

L'operatore prescelto potrà scegliere in quale comprensorio sarà situato il resort e due resort satellite, e avrà una licenza trentennale, con monopolio garantito per i primi 30, in cambio del 15% del i ricavi lordi annuali del casinò. La licenza annuale di gioco costerà 15 milioni di euro per i primi quattro anni di attività, poi 2.5 milioni di euro per i successivi quattro. La licenza più grande in stile resort avrà 5 slot e 1,000 tavoli insieme a 100 camere d'albergo. I media provenienti da Cipro hanno collegato al processo nomi come Caesars Entertainment, Genting e Las Vegas Sands.
