Brasile – Il senatore vuole il divieto delle scommesse sportive durante le partite di calcio

During the plenary session of the Senate long term opponent of gambling Senatore Eduardo Girao called for a ban on ban on advertising during football matches.
“Today, I watch football whenever I can. It is an aberration what we see at the edge of the field, ‘bet, bet, bet’ all the time. We should ban this on the edges of the pitch, in stadiums, in football stadiums and above all we should ban player advertising,” he said.
The senator then went onto argue that the Premier League in the UK had already prohibited jersey sponsorship and that Brazil should implement the same policy.
The senator has been a long term opponent to an expansion of the gambling market in Brazil and also came out against Bill 442/1991 which was passed by the House of Deputies in January 2022. The bill allows for casinos, bingo halls, the so called “Jogo do Bicho” or “Animal Game” and online gaming.
Inell'aprile 2022 the Senate Plenary approved the creation of the “Parliamentary Front for a Brazil without Gambling”. Created by Senator Eduardo Girão, the group formed by both senators and deputies announced that it would promote debates and adopt initiatives, such as bills that discourage gambling. Senator Girão said at the time that legalised gambling would lead to crimes, such as money laundering, tax evasion, and the corruption of public officials.
